- U.S. President Donald Trump is asking Big Tech and manufacturing giants to stop “hiring in India.”
- He unveiled an aggressive new AI Action Plan, to make the US the “#1 leader in AI”.
- What does he want? To bring AI jobs, factories, and innovation back to U.S. soil, and not give it to outsiders.
Trump’s New AI Action Plan
To make American Youths Employed Again, Trump administration has released a 28-page “AI Action Plan”, at the recent White House AI Summit 2025.
What does it consist of? 90+ policy actions, all aimed at securing America’s lead in the artificial intelligence space, and producing thousands of jobs.
Impact on the US AI industry
Exporting American AI
The Commerce and State Departments will join hands with industry players to push out complete AI export packages. This includes exporting chips, models, software, and standards to trusted allies worldwide.
Building a solid AI infrastructure
Data centers and chip fabs are going to have a field day with this, as the administration wants to speed up permits.
It also aims to launch national programs to boost skilled trades like electricians and HVAC techs — critical support for AI infrastructure.
Clearing Red Tape for AI Innovation
All the outdated federal rules that slow down AI innovation will likely get scrapped.
Free Speech in AI Models:
Federal contracts will go only to AI vendors whose frontier models are free from ideological bias.
But, but, but…America First
For decades, Big Tech has profited from sending work to low-cost locations like India and China.
Now, under Donald Trump’s America First polic,y it may come to an end.
He scolded Big Tech and manufacturing firms for hiring “outsiders” while young Americans are underemployed.
Donald Trump, July 2025, “Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India, and slashing profits in Ireland. You know that under President Trump, those days are over.”

What does this mean for India?
As the U.S. doubles down on AI dominance and leans into local hiring, Indian tech talent could be at the chopping block.
But don’t panic just yet.
Apple: Apple’s manufacturing ecosystem in India currently employs over 150,000 people, with corporate offices housing nearly 3,000 employees.
Amazon India: Over 100,000 employees in India.
The U.S. churns out around 150,000 engineering grads a year. In comparison, India pumps out 1.5 million annually. So, the talent gap is real.
And, budgets are shrinking faster than attention spans.
With tens of thousands of engineers already in India, FAANG giants like Google, Amazon, and Apple aren’t pulling the plug overnight.
