My Journey
I started my CA journey at the age of 17 and completed it when I was 21. It may seem super quick and easy, but they were the toughest days of my life.
Despite the hours and hours I spent studying I had my share of fun and did not let the CA journey ruin my happiness completely,” says Thakur Anurag Singh from Pune, Maharashtra who is a Disc Jockey(DJ) by heart and a Chartered Accountant by profession.
Once I completed my CA I started my practice. I pursued CA because I love numbers, but there is something else that I love – MUSIC.
So basically music is in my blood – My mom has learned Classical Indian Music and my sister has been a part of Voice of India.
As a kid, I loved being on stage performing. Mom wanted me to learn Indian Classical Music but I had no passion towards it, I loved House, Bollywood etc kind of music.
Passion to be a DJ
So after 1 year of qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and starting my own practice, I joined an academy which provides coaching to be a DJ.
So to become a Chartered Accountant one needs proper guidance and mentoring, the same way to become a good DJ one needs a trusted mentor.
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is somewhat like an algorithm and needs proper guidance to be good at it.
When I joined this class, I requested the teachers there not to let other students know that I am a CA. I wanted to master my art first.
Even now when I play for private parties I keep my identity discreet. It gets tough for people to accept that a CA can be a DJ too!!! All my teachers used to call me ‘ A CHARTERED DJ‘.
Overcoming Tough Days
I have faced tough days as well. There are days where managing work and my passion gets challenging. But one has to find a BALANCE between work and passion, that makes life interesting and worth living.
Also during the 2nd year of my articleship, my dad got a paralytic stroke. I wanted to give up CA and get into Dad’s business.
But thanks to my younger brother who took the entire responsibility of managing the business thus letting me continue with my CA studies and later on pursuing my passion.
There were instances where a relative and her daughter tried their level best to discourage me by saying stuff like – I am not very focused and will end up struggling to complete CA ( As my relative’s daughter had quit CA due to failure).
However, I worked hard in silence and ignored all of it letting my results talk.
Wrapping Up…
Dear friends, you will find people who will demotivate you, you STAY FOCUSED and KEEP GOING.
Avoid negative people.
In the end – It’s a short life. It’s on us how to make every day count.
Today whether I am a CA or a DJ, I am a professional and I am Proud of myself,” he concluded.
